christmas shopping

July 20th, 2018 at 11:41 pm

It's august in a week and half so its time to start my christmas shopping for the family, I have been doing the charity one all year and its looking good for all the foster kids that they will go to.

I have a set budget that I put away each month for christmas and everyone is giving me ideas for what they would like so I will carry my money and list and see what sales I hit along the way to save more money.

How does everyone else do their christmas?

I start setting money aside in September. We have very limited gift giving here. My family of origin doesn't exchange gifts anymore, although I do give my mother a token gift (my dad is dead). My siblings have too many offspring and grandkids and we decided a long time ago they should spend their money on that and we should use ours to pay off debt. Outside of my personal family we only exchange with my husband's mother (his dad is dead), we quit giving to his sister's family when they started having grandkids, as well. So I save about $500 and that is the budget for me, my two kids, and my husband. We don't have grandkids and won't for years. We don't get super extravagant, either.

We don't do extravagant either, and buy for limited family there are so many of us...I usually shop all year and hit bargains but this year health wise just hasn't been an option...but its one of my fav holidays

DH and I put a set amount of money in a Christmas club account each month and that's what we use to buy gifts for each other and some of the other gifts like for the hair dresser. I have been making some gifts all year. Currently I am making jam and jelly to give away. One of our friends loves homemade and canned goods so I try to can extra things like tomatoes, tomato juice, green beans, etc. and that is part of his present.
