Well we sent our taxes on the 17th january this year..yes via snail mail as it's the only way we can do it without it costing us over $300 plus to get them done.....it is now 25th sept and we haven't even heard if they have them..nothing is logged into their computer when we check online...I'm not going to chase it up..the last lot from 2019 & 2020 were just completed this year and was a nightmare...so we will wait and see what happens will see if they eventually get to them...I usually send them where they have to sign for them as it is very personal information and we don't live there and if someone gets a hold of the info then they could use it and we would never know....but still haven't heard from them!! the IRS has got to be one of the most incompetent places we have dealt with since covid started

I laughed during the Senate debate on the bill when Senators were pointing out that the current IRS computer applications are written in COBOL. I was a COBOL programmer way back in 1981 and I feel really proud that our code lasted so well. We were called ‘dinosaurs’ in the years leading up to Y2K - we used 6 digit dates to save space when space mattered…but our programs were ‘patched’ and they soldier on. Most COBOL programmers are retired or in Heaven now…
Anyway, so much can be automated if the IRS has the staff to do it and I really hope they do.
