Budget 2023

October 25th, 2021 at 05:59 am

I love to budget..but the last couple of years have been so unpredictable for us that a budget has been hard to stick to...my health has cost us thousands in specialists and treatments...my hubby's cancer the first time cost us a few thousand...not so much this time as only treating with injections at the moment...and then moving house, couch surfing, helping our youngest daughter out, moving my mom...plus our oldest trying to have a baby (we will probably help her out as well.

So with all the happening our budget wasn't working..bills were paid (never late), but everything we were saving for a house just went to these other things,,,so I am hoping that everything is getting sorted and slowing down and we can start saving our house deposit (which is super expensive and hard here) so I have done not only 2022 budget but also 2023 budget...our income rarely changes and if it does then it is more not less so it is easy to figure out...it looks like we will have to save around $50,000 for a deposit (yep that is only 3 %) so will take around 2 more years not one...so that is the plan for now...does everyone here use a budget and how far in advance do you do it?

In your budget, did you account for the type of items like medical expenses and helping your family, or are you hoping those won’t derail you?

Otherwise, you have a list of expenses that isn’t realistic based on your situation.

Peggywick yes I have all that accountated for I actually have 9 accounts for various things such as daily expenses, ice acct, POM acct, spurge, medical, car, other projects etc...so I have added the expenses in...but sometimes things come up unexpected that we need to help out with.

Goodliving, I just love to budget...its works for some people it doesn't for others but if you find something that works then I say stick with it...my bestie from florida come to visit us for 3 months right before covid hit...I was sitting down doing my budget, paying bills etc...and she said she never had a budget...our kids are like what you don't have a budget...she couldn't believe that our kids had one as well...lets just say our kids are better with money than she is...but they even like to budget

50k is only 3% down? Goodness. Is that 1.6m just a regular, modest house? And I thought that prices were bad here.

No its around $30000 just in fees and around $20000 deposit on a $500,000 house..houses are expensive here...its the up front fees that kill us...and make it hard to save....they dont put fees into the loan anymore

I’m glad you all were able to pay for your expenses, your health is more important. You’ll get there, hang in there
