My god we pay a lot of rent

January 6th, 2024 at 07:09 am

While doing our budget this year I figured we pay over $29,000 a year in rent....that really sucks...but guess we are stuck doing it for now

What are your other options? Is it the location that's good. In 2015-2017 we rented at the price of $2400 USD a month or around $28,800 a year. I thought it a stellar deal. Got a better house than what I was paying in mortgage before that. But realize that it was in a different city.

Now though since 2017 we bought. And the rent on that place I'm sure is running around $3500 a month. Our mortgage is $3200 a month plus $1800 taxes and insurance so around $5k> But principal is $1800 month so it's wash. Renting is now more expensive.

we don't have any other options...houses to rent here are scarce we had to couch surf for 4 months before we got this one

As for buying we would need at least $60,000 - $70,000 deposit up front that is hard to save when you are paying such high rent...

Yep absolutely. People don't realize that starting smaller sometimes is the key to flipping up to a bigger home. Our house downpayment was $15k and we flipped it into our current house the equity by living there and paying it down and appreciation. It's why people who say they got ahead renting for life, I think some people do but the bulk do not save the difference and invest it.

that amount is not a big flashy house or anything its just a normal aussie house which usually has smaller rooms than your houses etc...the only way to buy much cheaper it to buy a house in a bad area and we are not doing that EVER...housing is just so scarce...and one issue we have is our housing and wages are much cheaper than other states so they buy up all our housing and have high rents so they can eventually sell them to buy a house in their state that they can afford....but we will get there

Does it make sense to buy a condo or flat? Then move up from there? That's how it's done in expensive areas of the US. Buy really small and move up. Only way to get on ladder solo without help.

So that translates to about $19,300 US? Not horrible. I pay about $20,8000 annually for my 2 bedroom apartment. I am hoping to buy a home this summer. Living over a musician has gotten old really fast.

LAL no when we buy we want it to be our last home...and our daughter will live with us forever due to her illness and she also wants kids...so thats what we are looking for

terri we are all not single doctors either...also you don't need that much of a deposit ike we do here...I am happy for you to be able to pay rent and save up a $70,000 deposit so quick...it is going to take us a great deal of time!!

No most people buy smaller and then put down 5%. Then after say 5 years they flip it up by leverage into something bigger and the equity plus appreciation is what buys them their next house. It's how MonkeyMama and myself both bought condos in our 20s and flipped it into homes. I had to go condo to townhouse to house myself. And again the house will now provide a bigger downpayment on the next place if we so choose.

Honestly with my daughter wanting kids and her living with us and the cost difference between smaller places to larger ones its really not worth it...would rather have a forever home first.....we owned a house when the kds were little but that is another story
