fun ways to save money??

January 14th, 2025 at 12:54 am

So I am looking at fun ways to save money each year this year I am doing the 365 day challenge...it is a fun cheap way to save over $600 this year basically it is a penny doubled each day so the highest amount is $3.65...I know for many of you that is nothing since you have amaased a million or so but for those starting over again then it is a fun easy way to do this...so does anyone else have any ideas to save extra money??

My DD and I go walking several times a week and have started to take a bag with us and collect cans as we get 10c each when we cash them in (this goes in my jar and I bank it later in the year) so not a lot extra but on 2 walks we have made $1.20....so who knows over the year..every bit helps right.

Also working on $1,000 in my ice account, paying of 2 CC, then building my ice account to 3-6 months of expenses as well as saving for a home..and bringing down our food budget..thats what I am working on this year...I feel this is going to be a good year

I'm not sure if these would qualify as "fun" ways to save money, but the way I like to think about it is, since I have just so much time in a day, that I want to get the biggest bang for the buck. (Maybe that's an American expression, but it means getting the most benefit out of the least effort.) So I would focus on shopping around for car and homeowner's insurance every year, because at least here in the states, premiums rise every year, even if you've never filed a claim. So this could save hundreds of dollars. I also like to look for other ways to save money on these premiums, like taking a safe driver course or "bundling" my home and auto policies with the same issuer. It's worth the time to research other ways to save, like certain car safety features, or making sure your home insurer knows you have a fire hydrant right across the street.

Another easy way to save, assuming you have good credit, is to take advantage of the upfront cash bonus many credit card issuers offer. Since you're going to be charging stuff anyway, you may as well earn some extra cash by doing so. Many cards will pay you $200 or so after you charge a certain amount, like $500 to $1,000, in the first 3 months of owning the card. Easy peasy. Just be sure to pay everything off in full each month.

Those are just 2 things off the top of my head.

I'm always trying to figure out ways to save money. One thing I've been doing is these receipt apps. Not sure if you can do them where you are, but you take photos of receipts and you get points and after a bit you can either cash in for cash or gift cards.

Right now with grocery prices the way they are, finding ways to save is important. I've gotten onto a couple frugal saving sights on Facebook and people share things. Some are useful, some are not.

I do a number of saving challenges.
One was the word of the year, my word Money so I was committed to saving the dollar amount corresponding to the letter. For example M is 13, so $13, O is $15 so $15 and so on. That’s for January.

I’m also doing the 100 day saving challenge. So for the year I draw a number between 1-100 and save that amount. So if I pull 16, I save $16.

The Budget Mom have saving challenges that you pay for that defeats the purpose but are available. You can just search the web and Facebook groups for challenges

Patientsaver yes we do this every year looking at our insurances...although we don't have fire hydrants on the street we have fire trucks...but our insurances don't worry about safe driving courses etc...its not a thing here.
Also our CC rarely if ever have bonuses attached to them. Even if you have good credit (which e have)

Rob62521 we have 1 here that I looked into and wasn't really worth it a lot of effort for very little but thanks

Amber that is a bit pricey for me right now, but sounds fun..yeah I'm not going to pay to save although it is a way for her to make money I guess

Hi, Mum. Here's a link to a bunch of upfront cash back cards, if you're interested.

The way it works here is that if you have a fire, yes, the firemen and fire trucks arrive, but they need a fire hydrant to hook the fire hose onto for a supply of water. Every neighborhood has hydrants, but they may be closer or further to your home. Insurers may give you a small discount if you have one very close by because minutes matter when you have a fire.
