electric bill update

July 9th, 2025 at 01:51 am

Well I have finally heard back from the electric company and what do you know my bill went from $2200 down to $959..although still a bit higher (and yes elec prices have gone up yet again) it is much better than it was. That is a whopping $1241 difference, I wonder how many people just get a bill in and pay it without looking at it...but I am glad I questioned it and now have the right amount to pay.

Payment went through to my dreaded CC so it currently stands at $4000 that we owe it is coming down slowly and I am lowering the amount as it comes down as we will pay it off and close it, so hopefully in next couple months we will be able to do that. Then can work on the next one.

Still seems high to me, but that is definitely a thousand times better than before!

Wow. Huge improvement. Did they say why or how the error happened?

No they didnt say why but I knew the reading was wrong as I went and read the meter myself when the bill come in and it didnt add up...so that was the issue...but yes over $1200 difference is just not okay

Interesting...guess it pays to question everything! In the past, an employee of the electric utility drives around in a car and, without needing to go up your driveway, wirelessly reads your meter, but they are currently transitioning everyone over to "smart" meters, which eliminates the need for drive-by readers.

I am definitely going to look into cooling blankets!

A question on your recommendation of a cooling blanket. Would you say it's cooler than just sleeping with a sheet?

patient saver I would never get a smart meter unless we were made to I dont like smart things around our home and until we are made to we wont have one when we buy a home...but a lot of homes here still have the old ones...we are just old school I guess most new builds would have them....most young people are easily sold on things like that.

As for cooling blankets we have them for us and our pets...they are different from sheets, and do keep you cooler, I bought ours from an aussie company as I trust our brands more than from china etc...but it does keep you cooler and on real hot days we will put in the fridge and them onto the bed before we go to bed and it keeps you nice and cool
