almost debt free!!

August 1st, 2025 at 08:57 am

So I got 1 of my payouts and I have paid all of our debt except my student loans....do I have the money for it...yes....why aren't I paying it now...well our govt is going to take 20% off of our student loans so I will save over 5k when they do.. so I am going to wait till they do that so I can save the extra money but other than that we are debt free and finally have some money in the bank, we are doing a couple of things bt most will be saved for a house deposit. so we are excited for this next chapter in our lives...I have put 5k in my ice acct and have put away a years worth of payments in our car (rego, service, tyres etc, we dont owe anything on the car we bought it for cash), insurances, the dog, paid off both CC (one we will close once payment is in)...so things are doing good right now...hope everyone has a great august.

It’s great that you’re using this money to pay off debt and save for a house! It sounds like you have more coming. Will this be ongoing payments, or is it a temporary thing? Do you have a plan for the rest of the money? Will it be enough to get you into a house? It’s so nice to make progress on debt.

We are basically debt free...yes I have the student loan but I do have the money to pay it...just waiting for the 20% to come off it first, we are only indexed once a year 1 june so it is not accumulating any extra fees or anything.

we have 1 more payment coming in and it is what we will live off for 12 months (our income), it will be a lump sum so I have decided that since it is for bills we will put it into the accounts it needs to be in and just track it from there monthly...think it will work for us.

We will still be able to save each month and we will eventually be able to have a depoisit for a home but like I mentioned in a previous post for a home deposit and up front fees its going to be around $130-40k in total....so will take some time...
