lower tax return

So we got our tax return into the bank it was $192 where we figured it to be $522 so hopefully we will get paperwork to say why it is so low...but I guess happy that it has finally been processed since they had it for 10 plus weeks, frustrating but cant say it suprises me...will probably take a couple months for the letter to get here..so will see

    Hmm, could it be that lower tax return is somehow a good thing? Every year, I always hope that it'd be roughly $0, because I don't want to give my wayward government a free loan in advance. At the same time, I also don't want to owe them too much either, if only because I don't want any unexpected dents in my wallet.

    But yeah, it'd be interesting to find out why the the returns are unexpectedly low.

    If your tax refund was lower than expected, it could be that there was a mathematical error on the return that the IRS automatically corrected. Whether it is that or some other error, you should eventually receive a notice about it. Right now the IRS is busy processing current returns. The greatest issuance of notices occurs in June. You will have 60 days from the date on the notice to contest it if you believe they are in error.

    Thanks dido..problem is by the time we get their notice 4-5 weeks have usually passed and then we have to respond which take extra time going back because we have to do physical mail ..
